The 2019 Guide to Curing App Overload

RingCentral UK Cloud based PBX Phone System

When applications were first introduced to the enterprise workflow, they were designed as a way to save time and improve productivity. Unfortunately, the sheer number of tools available today means that apps are starting to kill productivity, rather than support it.

Research from Harmon.ie suggests that the average employee needs to work with around 9 separate apps today just to manage their personal workflow. The same study found that 67% would prefer to have all of their business productivity tools located in the same single-pane-of-glass environment if they had the option.

There’s an App for That (and Everything Else)

In companies across every vertical today, staff members have too many apps to manage. People are spending more time moving between tabs and programmes, and less time focusing on the task at hand. According to CITE and RingCentral research into 2,000 knowledge workers throughout the UK, US, and Australia, app overload is quickly becoming the “new normal.”

Around 7 out of 10 workers in the study said they were wasting up to an hour each day simply moving between apps – adding up to 32 lost days through the year. Modern employees have so many ways to communicate, collaborate, and connect with each other, that they’re struggling to keep track of all their options. From conference calls to messages, email, to social media, it’s no wonder that people are feeling overwhelmed.

The good news is that this broken system of business productivity has prompted greater demand for a more efficient way to work. 66% of respondents in the RingCentral study said that a unified communications platform would help them to achieve a better workflow by connecting all their disparate tools.
