Feature Highlight: Cisco Intelligent Proximity

Cisco Intelligent Proximity App

Over the last 12 months, Cisco has reignited it’s collaboration portfolio with fire in its belly. With a whole host of delightful collaboration technologies brought to market (such as the DX Series & new IX5000) and innovations designed to deliver advanced collaboration capabilities for any business workspace, Cisco is enabling users to work smarter, and more efficiently, from virtually anywhere.

One of the features really exciting visitors in our demo suite over the last couple of months is “Cisco Intelligent Proximity”, a truly innovative feature for your mobile device, that really starts to show it’s worth when you walk into the proximity of a Cisco collaboration endpoint. Announced & launched as two seperate solutions; Cisco Intelligent Proximity for Voice & Cisco Intelligent Proximity for Content Sharing, the capabilities aim to blur the lines between the mobile world and fixed/on-premise collaborative environments.

“Cisco Intelligent Proximity for Voice” has officially launched into the Cisco collaboration world. Users of the Android based Cisco DX Series are the first to benefit from the ability to wirelessly synch their iOS or Android based devices. The solution enables users to easily import contacts and call history between their device & desktop system, and simply move a call already in progress across to another device to take advantage of the best device for the situation at that moment in time. See the video below to see the Cisco Intelligent Proximity for Voice in action with the Cisco DX650:

Although still in Beta phase, “Cisco Intelligent Proximity for Content Sharing” is supported by the SX Series & MX Series (G2) video collaboration solutions and allows you to automatically pair your smartphone or tablet with your Cisco video endpoint. Once paired, you have the ability to control the endpoint directly from your mobile device, search directories & place video calls. But the best part of Cisco Intelligent Proximity for Content Sharing is the ability to be highly interactive with the meeting content.

Any content shared on the video conferencing endpoint is simply shared directly with your mobile device – and it’s great to be able to view the content right in front of your eyes. But this intelligent feature is more than just mirroring the display. A user can then swipe back through previously displayed content without interrupting the presenter. You can jump back through slides, scroll up through documents and check on previous notes, without affecting any other viewer in the room. And you can also save a snapshot of the content directly to your mobile device for later viewing.

The video below shows the Cisco Intelligent Proximity for Content Sharing in Action!

And what’s more – if someone turns up late, no problem. The intelligence is inside the codec, meaning they can quickly skim back through the slides as soon as they arrive. Content isn’t missed meaning a shorter & far more highly productive meeting with less interruptions and delays.

“The Cisco Intelligent Proximity hugely enhances the meeting experience. As a Quantity Surveyor, it’s very useful to be able to scroll back to a previous slide to check on the figures being discussed without interrupting my clients in the meeting.

The Cisco Intelligent Proximity for Content Sharing is likely to be released in late 2014 – early 2015, and will support the latest generation Cisco room-based video endpoints. The initial release will be for iOS only, however will be very closely followed by an Android version with the same features.
