Today we are announcing the completion of interoperability testing of the Polycom HDX series of video conference room and personal systems with Cisco Unified Communications Manager version 6.0 and 7.0.

Cisco has been investing heavily in their unified communications (UC) platform, extending IP telephony into collaborative communications including Web collaboration, video telephony, and immersive telepresence. While Polycom competes with Cisco in visual communication solutions and in desktop voice over IP (VoIP) solutions, it is also true that many have adopted Cisco Unified Communications Manager as their homogeneous platform of choice for Unified Communications, or are using it in a mixed environment with Microsoft or IBM, for instance.

Although historically, Cisco has chosen closed, proprietary solutions for telephony and telepresence, they are starting to accept third-party solutions to increase interoperability and to offer more choices for customers for voice and video telephony solutions, due to customer demand.
