TANDBERG has donated six of its bedside video systems to the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital.  The ‘TANDBERG Babycams’ will be used to link mothers to their newborns via video conferencing in situations where they have been separated by premature births and other medical complications.

The donation will expand a service supported by the Scottish Centre for Telehealth. When not being used to provide a remote diagnostic service for babies born with suspected heart problems, the video conferencing systems are used by parents in hospital who are unable to visit their baby due to medical complications.

It also follows success stories, such as that of Kerry Neville who suffered kidney failure and other complications after the premature birth of her daughter. While her baby, Lucie, remained in the neonatal unit at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital, Kerry was transferred to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary next door for dialysis treatment. By using the TANDBERG Babycam next to her bedside, Kerry was still able to bond with her child.

Commenting on the Babycams, Kerry said: “It was amazing. The picture was so clear that I could see every move my daughter made. It was reassuring to see the nurses feeding her and taking care of her, as opposed to just being told about it or seeing pictures of her. I was so impressed that my family decided to make a donation to help pay for more Babycams.”

“The use of T150s as Babycams is just one of the innovative ways to use video in healthcare. It is thanks to consultants like Christopher Lilley, who drove the adoption of Babycams at the Princess Royal Maternity, and the SCT, that we will see more mothers benefiting from video technology in hospitals,” said Steve Woollett, Head of Public Sector Business at TANDBERG.

“TANDBERG fully supports the SCT in its drive to add further video conferencing systems to connect mothers and babies using TANDBERG Babycams.
