VideoCentric claims new record – 19 different IP systems in one huge video conference.

Wokingham, UK, July 02 2004 In a demonstration of interoperability of broadband videoconferencing, VideoCentric today claimed to have held a single video conference, with 19 different H.323 systems in the same call. Every endpoint system involved was a current model and all could see each other on screen simultaneously.

Hosted by the new Codian 4210 MCU, VideoCentric set out to prove that every one of its latest demonstration systems could co-exist in one multi-site video call.

David Shimell from VideoCentric said “Although Internet Mega Conferences are not new… UKERNA has been demonstrating them successfully for many years now… this is the first time, to our knowledge that so many different systems from different manufacturers have been involved in one Continuous Presence MCU call. No two systems were the same and every one of them was a current production model.” He went on to add “Our customers today demand interoperability between competing systems and by testing this independently, we are able to satisfy them, as well as ourselves, that the leading-brand systems are really working together in 2004”.

The systems involved were:-

Codian MCU 4210 (new in 2004)
TANDBERG 990 (new in 2004)
TANDBERG 1000
Polycom FX
Polycom VSX7000 (new in 2003)
Polycom VSX3000 (new in 2004)
Polycom V500 new in 2004)
Polycom ViewStation
VCON HD5000 codec (new in 2004)
VCON HD3000 (new in 2004)
VCON Falcon IP
Sony PCS-1 (new in 2003)
RADVision IP-ISDN Gateway (to Polycom VSX7000-QBRI)
LeadTek BVP 8870 videophone
Wooksung TelephoSee video phone (new in 2003)
VCON Vpoint HD Executive (new in 2004)
VCON Cruiser 150
Polycom ViaVideo
VCON ViGO Professional

To utilise the full 20-port capability of the Codian MCU, it was intended that VideoCentric's StarBak VCG streaming server also be involved in streaming the multi-way conference to QuickTime viewers on Internet PCs. This wasn’t possible due to unit being on loan for a customer evaluation.

For a demonstration of any of the systems listed or to add new systems to VideoCentric’s interoperability test lab, contact interop@videocentric.co.uk or phone 0118 974 0125.
