Cisco TelePresence Video Communication Server (VCS)

Cisco VCS Infrastructure box

The Cisco Video Communication Server (VCS) provides the most advanced telepresence and video conferencing call control in the industry. Flexible and extensible for video conferencing applications, it enables any-to-any interoperability between all standards-compliant SIP and H.323 devices. VCS enables video communications devices to interoperate with unified communications and Voice over IP solutions, providing the end user the best experience possible no matter what device they are using to communicate.

Cisco TelePresence VCS offers:

  • Greater reach – Get any-to-any video communications between standards-based and third-party client users.
  • Improved scalability – TelePresence provisioning, clustering, and policy services integration help support large-scale growth.
  • Constant reachability – Cisco FindMe helps ensure people can always be contacted.
  • Flexibility – Implement VCS as an appliance or a virtualised application.
  • Extended collaboration capability – Easy integration with Cisco Unified Communications Manager and third-party unified communications solutions helps to reduce interworking complexity.

The Cisco TelePresence Video Communication Server (Cisco VCS) is comprises Cisco TelePresence Video Communication Server Control (VCS Control) and Cisco Telepresence Video Communication Server Expressway (VCS Expressway) to enable smooth video conferencing and collaboration easily and securely, inside and outside your organisation.

CISCO TELEPRESENCE VCS CONTROL

Cisco TelePresence Video Communication Server Control (Cisco VCS Control) provides Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) proxy and call control as well as H.323 gatekeeper services. The centre of the intelligent video communication network, the Cisco VCS Control application connects all infrastructure, management, and endpoint devices and is critical to interoperability with unified communications and IP telephony networks and voice-over-IP (VoIP) devices.

It enables definition of aspects such as routing, dial plans, and bandwidth usage, while allowing organizations to define video call-management applications, customized to their requirements.

CISCO TELEPRESENCE VCS EXPRESSWAY

Cisco TelePresence Video Communication Server Expressway (Cisco VCS Expressway) opens the world outside the firewall to organizations using video communications. Cisco VCS Expressway enables business-to-business communications, empowers remote and home-based workers, and allows service providers to provide video communications to customers. Cisco VCS Expressway provides standards-based and secure firewall traversal for SIP and H.323 devices, and the Cisco VCS Expressway allows video traffic to traverse the firewall securely, enabling rich video communications with partners, customers, suppliers, and mobile and teleworkers.

WHY USE THE CISCO VCS?

Important use cases for Cisco VCS include:

  • Business-to-business video: Using Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) dialing, you can collaborate with customers, partners, and suppliers as easily and securely as you do with email messages. No prearrangements are needed. And, if your partners, suppliers, or customers have a third-party standards-based H.323, H.264 switched virtual circuit (SVC), or Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) system, you can collaborate with them too – as easily as you do with those people in your own office.
  • Mobile video experiences using Cisco Jabber® for TelePresence (formally Movi) clients: Secure mobile access based on Transport Layer Security (TLS), Cisco Jabber® for TelePresence mobile lets you make and receive video calls without requiring the extra step of a VPN.
  • Teleworkers: Teleworkers can use their personal Cisco TelePresence endpoints for video interactions with colleagues, customers, partners, and suppliers from their home office.
  • Investment protection: The solution offers video interoperability with your current standards-based H.323, H.264 SVC, and AVC or SIP systems and devices.
