Wokingham, Berkshire, UK, August 28th 2007 - VideoCentric has been selected as one of the UK Technology Partners authorised to supply and install the new SMART Senteo system which allows continuous assessment in the classroom.
The classroom technology comes just weeks after The Daily Mail reported The General Teaching Council as saying “SATs tests are poisoning children’s education” and called for “exams to be abolished before the age of 16”.
Senteo, now ready to be supplied and installed in classrooms across England, Scotland and Wales by VideoCentric is a simple-to-use voting system whereby pupils answer a set of questions during or at the end of each piece of subject matter, similar top the ones used for audience participation in quiz shows. Each student handset is uniquely identified by the Senteo PC software, which immediately shows the teacher which students have not grasped the taught material. Adjustments can thereby be made as the lesson progresses, and relevant homework set at the end for those that really need it. The package is so easy to use that teacher-training requirements are minimal, and offered by VideoCentric as part of the installation package or as a refresher package.
David Shimell, Sales Director for VideoCentric said “The row between Education Secretary Alan Johnson and GTC chief Keith Bartley reported in the Daily Mail on June 11th 2007, mentioned scrapping of exams, abolishing league tables, and driving up standards, yet failed to identify any real alternative other than the short term trial of shorter, more frequent tests.” He went on to add, “I believe Senteo offers such a big opportunity for teachers to improve their own standards through instant and continuous assessment of their students, it would be wrong of Head Teachers not authorise a trial of it at their school to assess its benefits. At just over £2 (two pounds) per day the purchase of a whole 32-student package, under VideoCentric’s 3-year lease-purchase scheme, is much less expensive than other IT tools being deployed in many schools, yet will yield immediate and visible results and benefit students and teachers alike”.
5-pack trail packages are now available from VideoCentric for on-site
demonstration or 1-week hire, and 10-pack, 24-pack and 32-pack
sets are shipping with immediate effect. For more details
