London & Edinburgh – February 1st 2008 - VideoCentric has announced that it will be selling and supporting Emblaze-VCON’s new X-Point videoconferencing system aimed at bringing affordable, high resolution video & data to customers at lower bandwidths.
The new system has a unique data sharing feature built into the basic model, meaning that a standard USB stick containing a powerpoint, excel, word, AVI or other presentation can be plugged in and the system will automatically present its contents to the meeting controller for display within the conference. Usual add-ons such as laptop data sharing and ISDN are also to be available as options and an in-built 6-way MultiPoint will be added as an option during 2008.
Supporting bandwidths up to 4Mbps at its high end, VCON have also focused on performance at the low end of the bandwidth spectrum where most customers using public networks need to operate. Whereas many 720P HD systems on the market will fall-back to a lower video resolution, eg CIF, VCON have utilised 4xCIF to ensure an HD-like quality even at 384kbps.
Screen configurations are more flexible than other systems on the market at this price too. Dual screen operation with various configurations of TV, XGA or DVI monitors or projectors mean that it is suitable for large meeting rooms as well as being attractive on price for smaller ones. Its sound performance is also boosted by 20Hz ultra wideband audio quality regarded by many as the most important feature of any video conference.
The optional ISDN module is also unique in that it can be connected directly to a port on the rear of the X-Point or it can be networked using an RJ45 cable to a LAN, making it a shared resource, accessible to numerous IP endpoints on the customer’s network. In this mode, it operates in a similar way to a QBRI ISDN Gateway, albeit only one nominated endpoint can use it at any one time, but that makes it ideal for locations where an X-Point and a handful of vPoint desktop clients have been installed where ISDN access is only required periodically.
