The HD4000 is VCON's software only workgroup conferencing system that combines the versatility of a software only platform with high quality videoconferencing. Utilizing the latest H.264 video standard, and clear, crisp audio the HD4000 allows organisations to build a group videoconferencing system that is an exact need for their needs and specifications.

The HD4000 incorporates advanced data conferencing capabilities, allowing you to turn any video conference into a fully interactive workgroup meeting with the click of a button. When embedded in a high performance PC, the HD4000 can become an integral part of a training room, conference room or classroom.

The HD4000 is part of VCON's total rich media conferencing solution, enabling seamless communication and collaboration using all forms of interactive media.

Multi-Purpose Solution

In addition to providing value as an advanced videoconferencing solution, the HD4000 can also be used as a high-performance multimedia workstation. In a small conference room with a single monitor, or a large training room with dual plasma displays, the HD4000 can be accessed to perform multiple functions. The HD4000 can be used during a meeting or training session to display presentations or VCR/DVD videos. When the HD4000 is connected to the local area network, it can access network files to display during a video conference, or to share during a meeting. With its access to the Internet, the HD4000 can be used to join a web data conference or instant messaging session; regardless of whether or not the system is in a video conference

Flexible and Easy-to-Use

As a software product, the HD4000 provides flexibility for customers who want to use their own hardware, but are also looking for a complete videoconferencing application for their conference rooms, classrooms or training rooms. Customers can combine the HD4000 with their own PC, speakers, displays, podiums, carts and cameras. With an easy-to-use interface, the HD4000 allows people to connect with the click of a single button. During a video conference, the HD4000 application allows customers to access documents and applications located on the local PC or the network, the Internet, and movie/audio clips

Build Your Own Group Videoconferencing System with HD4000

Here are some general guidelines to customers regarding how to integrate the VCON HD4000 application into a PC with peripherals, in order to create a high-quality group system. Certain vertical applications may require more and/or different types of peripherals than the ones listed and suggested here.

PC Requirements: (The PC requirements listed here are very specific and must be adhered to in order to obtain maximum video and audio quality using the HD4000 videoconferencing application.)

  • Pentium IV-based PC
  • 3.06GHz (or higher)
  • 800MHz BUS
  • Hyper-Thread CPU
  • 512MB 400MHz RAM
  • Windows XP Professional operating system
  • ATI All-in-Wonder 9800 Pro/SE OR ATI All-in-Wonder 9600 XP/Pro
  • Creative SoundBlaster Live 5.1 (recommended) (PCI card)
  • 1xComm port (2 ports are required if the VCON VoiceFinder is part of the system’s configuration)
  • USB port for the VCON USB Authentication Key. It is recommended that you place this USB key on the inside of the computer chassis.

Required peripherals:

  • PTZ Camera: Canon VC-C4 (recommended), Sony EVI-D100, Sony EVI-D30 and cameras are the types of approved cameras
  • Omni (recommended) or Uni directional tabletop microphone: Type of microphone will be determined by the room and location of the system
  • XGA Monitor or Wide Screen Display (see “Display Recommendations Guide” on the HD4000 web page for more information on how to choose a monitor/display)

All of the above peripherals can be purchased from VideoCentric.

Optional peripherals:

  • Wireless keyboard and International Remote Control (VCON accessory)
  • Document camera
  • Audio mixer (when multiple microphones are needed)
  • Rollabout cart
  • Speaker system (2 speakers and subwoofer)
  • VoiceFinder (voice tracking camera system – compatible with either the Sony EVI-D30 or Sony EVI-D100 cameras)

All of the above peripherals can be purchased from VideoCentric.

System placement and configuration suggestions:

For classroom or training room settings, a dual monitor display works best especially when data is being shared between multiple locations. Document cameras can also be very useful in sharing information. Having two PTZ cameras (one placed at the front of the room facing the students and the other at the back of the room facing the teacher) is optimal. Additionally, having an audio mixer that has multiple microphones works best in distance learning environments, as well as a speaker system with speakers placed at the front and back of the room. A wireless keyboard is usually the preferred device in this type of environment.

For boardroom settings, a wide screen display (LCD or plasma) at one end of the room is a popular configuration. For audio, either one omni-directional microphone or dual uni-directional microphones are optimal. A remote control is usually the preferred device in a boardroom. Speakers should be placed on either side of the display at the front of the room.

For small workgroup settings, where data sharing will play a large role in the videoconferencing sessions, a dual monitor system is recommended so that data can be on one monitor and the remote video on the other. A popular setup is to have two monitors on a single cart in the front or corner of the room, with a single microphone in the middle of the table. Both a wireless keyboard and remote control device are useful with workgroups. Sometimes document cameras can play a large role in this type of environment. Depending on the size of the room, speakers may not be needed; the speakers built into the monitors may be sufficient.

For executive office settings, a single, large screen display (i.e. 30” LCD) set on a cart towards the back of the office, across from the executive’s desk is the optimal setup. The control device (either a wireless keyboard or remote control) is up to the individual. Depending on the size of the room, speakers may not be needed; the speakers built into the monitors may be sufficient.
